IMC Boosts Offshore Portfolio With Acquisition of Marine
Engineering Firm
Singapore, 22 February 2008 - IMC Corp is pleased
to announce the acquisition of Marine Engineering Services
Pte Ltd (MES), an offshore marine engineering company
based in Singapore. This move will add engineering design
capabilities to IMC’s offshore engineering portfolio
to meet the rising upstream demand within the Oil &
Gas (O&G) industry.
With sustained high oil prices and rising demand for
oil, Exploration & Production (E&P) activities
within the O&G industry are witnessing a supply
bottleneck accompanied by a surge in average day rates
for rigs and offshore supply vessels and a backlog in
rig orders.
C Y Ng, Managing Director of IMC Offshore Engineering
Pte Ltd, said: “IMC will meet the strong demand
for offshore facilities in the industry. MES will complement
our operations with its expertise in offshore engineering
design and niche areas like fixed platforms and living
quarters.”
Fixed platform projects in Asia are expected to increase
significantly over the next five years as E&P activities
in the region are predominantly focused on shallow-waters
below 200m. “IMC is poised to add value to the
shallow-water sector via its acquisition of MES, which
is made up of a team of experienced engineers,”
added Mr Ng.
Widely recognized within the offshore industry for
its quality engineering work, MES has a good track record.
Bob Cheung, Managing Director of MES, said, “Over
the years, we have established a client list that includes
internationally renowned companies in the O&G sector
such as McDermott, Nippon Steel, Sembawang Corp, Japan-Vietnam
Petroleum Co. and PTTEP Thailand among others.”
MES has also done topside modules for Floating, Production,
Storage and Operating (FPSO) units and semi-submersibles
for MODEC, Tanker Pacific and Compass Energy.
