PTTEP Promoting Thai Shipbuilding Industry

Bangkok, 14 July 2007
- PTT Exploration and Production Public Company Limited (PTTEP) unveiled a multi-purpose offshore vessel built by Unithai Shipyard and Engineering, the largest shipyard in Thailand. The vessel will support PTTEP’s exploration and production in the Bongkot Asset, part of the Navamindra Petroleum Area, in the Gulf of Thailand. PTTEP signed a three-year contract with Mermaid Offshore Services Limited, a provider of drilling and sub-sea engineering services for the oil and gas industry, to charter this new vessel use in the Gulf.

The 60-metre-long, 70-ton bollard pull multi-purpose offshore vessel M.V. Mermaid Sovereign was launched at the Unithai shipyard, Laem Chabang in Chonburi province. It is scheduled to be delivered later this year.

The M.V. Mermaid Sovereign is uniquely designed for offshore operations. It is configured to handle the multiple tasks required in the exploration and production of crude oil and natural gas. These include support for tanker berthing operations, single-point mooring, pipe maintenance and readiness as a standby vessel at the offshore operating site in the Gulf of Thailand.

PTTEP is currently involved in 36 exploration and production projects in 11 countries worldwide. PTTEP, a national leading company that is continuously developing and expanding its business to meet the growth in energy demand, also actively promotes Thai industry that serves offshore operations, while at the same time maintaining the security, health and environmental standards that are so crucial in the petroleum industry.
