PTTEP Promoting Thai Shipbuilding Industry
Bangkok, 14 July 2007 - PTT Exploration and
Production Public Company Limited (PTTEP) unveiled a multi-purpose
offshore vessel built by Unithai Shipyard and Engineering,
the largest shipyard in Thailand. The vessel will support
PTTEP’s exploration and production in the Bongkot
Asset, part of the Navamindra Petroleum Area, in the Gulf
of Thailand. PTTEP signed a three-year contract with Mermaid
Offshore Services Limited, a provider of drilling and
sub-sea engineering services for the oil and gas industry,
to charter this new vessel use in the Gulf.
The 60-metre-long, 70-ton bollard pull multi-purpose
offshore vessel M.V. Mermaid Sovereign was launched
at the Unithai shipyard, Laem Chabang in Chonburi province.
It is scheduled to be delivered later this year.
The M.V. Mermaid Sovereign is uniquely designed for
offshore operations. It is configured to handle the
multiple tasks required in the exploration and production
of crude oil and natural gas. These include support
for tanker berthing operations, single-point mooring,
pipe maintenance and readiness as a standby vessel at
the offshore operating site in the Gulf of Thailand.
